Pulsatilla vulgaris

Pulsatilla vulgaris

The Pasque flower's common name means the Easter flower,  as the silky purple flowers open around this time. It is a native European plant of chalk downland and 'Danes blood', the other common name, probably comes from its association with old barrows and boundary banks as it likes open sunny sites.
