Invest in overalls for pruning jobs

Today's tip combines botany and self-preservation: a pair of work overalls is a good investment if you intend to prune rambler roses. Ramblers climb by growing very long new stems each year which have downward-facing thorns (botanically, 'prickles') which help to anchor the stems as they grow through trees or shrubs. Cutting back ramblers is like wrestling with barbed wire, and overalls, eye protection, stout gauntlets and a hat are minimum requirements.
