You may be reluctant to cut back the evergreen leaves of the many useful cultivars of Epimedium - they turn an interesting bronzed green in winter, lending more interest to a shady border. However to see the unfurling new flowers, and the rich reddish tints of the newly-emerged foliage, you have to sacrifice them now.
