Corylus avellana contorta 'Red Majestic'

The corkscrew hazel is grown for its remarkable contorted shape: in winter, the bare twisted branches are covered with  dark purple catkins; this cultivar, 'Red Majestic', has rich purple-red foliage to give interest for the rest of the year.
