Galanthus elwesii

Even before Christmas, the nodding white bells of Elwes' snowdrop start to push through fallen leaves and winter debris. This snowdrop is larger than the common G. nivalis: it has larger grey-green leaves, taller stems, and slightly larger flowers. It naturalises just as well in a garden or woodland situation.
