Vein -clearing virus might seem a fairly subtle form of variegation; Sambucus nigra 'Pulverulenta' has a much more dramatic type, where the whole plant is so spectacularly variegated that the leaves are more showy than the large white flowers, and from a distance the bush appears to be flowering through much of the year. 'Pulverulenta' means 'powdered' .
