Camellia sasanqua

Camellia sasanqua

There are some camellias which come into flower in October and November - the cultivars of C. sasanqua are beautiful, but the plants are slightly less robust that other camellias and the shrubs need a reasonalby sheltered position. Leaves are slightly smaller than Camellia japonica or its hybrids,  flowers are generally single and less showy.  If you garden on chalk you can grow C. sasanqua in containers but good flowering depends on plenty of water in the late spring to set the buds.
