Where a virus produces variegation, sometimes it is thought attractive and an enhancement to the plant, and so propagated. Where the virus is stable and the variegation remains fairly consistent, the new form can be registered as a cultivar and sold. One of the most widely-known is Abutilon megapotamicum 'Variegatum', which some people find attractive enough to buy.
