Nandina domestica
Nandina or 'sacred bamboo' is an evergreen shrub named for its rather bare, upright stems and bamboo-like growth habit; the young leaves are reddish-purple then turn a brilliant colour again in winter. Plumes of small white flowers are followed by red berries. Recent cultivars are more compact and bred for colourful young foliage, showing little resemblance to bamboo.
