Euonymus are unstable

Variegated Euonymus like this 'Emerald'n'Gold' are not really stable plants - the variegation can become extreme, with bleached shoots  of pale cream, or disappear altogether in frequent dark green reverted shoots.  Make sure you cut out the reversion whenever it appears or your cultivar will soon be swamped by green stems; the pale shoots are weaker growth and will never come to dominate the plant.
