Passiflora caerulea

Passiflora caerulea

This very vigorous semi-evergreen climber can cover 12 metres in a season, and has running roots which can send up new shoots metres away from the original  - but it can be kept in check by cutting it back close to the ground each year.  It has lobed dark-green leaves and twining tendrils, but it is grown for its exotic white, blue and purple flowers, and in warm summers there are showy but inedible orange fruits.
