Berberis thunbergii f. atropurpurea

Japanese barberry is deciduous,with purple leaves which turn crimson/scarlet in autumn before they fall. If it is trimmed as a hedge, the yellow flowers aren't very noticeable but the small red berries show up in autumn on the bare twigs.
