Recognise fungal 'fruits'

Autumn is the time of year for other 'fruits' to ripen - these colonies of fungi are the fruiting bodies of a vast network of underground threads , the mycorrhizae which help these birch trees to take in water and nutrients. They will soon release their spores and help the colony to spread.
