Fascicularia bicolor

The Crimson bromeliad  is an unusual Chilean plant with rosettes of narrow, stiff spiny-toothed leaves. In a really good summer a mature rosette will produce a dense central cluster of pale sky-blue flowers surrounded by ivory-white bracts.  This won't happen every year, but the innermost leaves of the rosette will turn scarlet red towards the end of the summer even if the flowers don't appear.
