Weedwatch 10: ground ivy

There is a variegated form of Glechoma hederacea (ground ivy) which is used in hanging baskets; baskets are probably safe, but once it touches the ground even the variegated form  will root at nodes and form a smothering mat, just like the evergreen weed. It invades lawns as well as herbaceous plantings, surviving mower blades with its low flower stalks.
