Should common evening primrose be a plant of the day, or a weed to watch? This North American native spreads itself around widely, appearing unexpectedly in your garden with insignificant rosettes of leaf, followed by a huge 1.5m stem of bowl-shaped, fragrant, yellow flowers with reddish stalks which open in the evening in summer and autumn.
