Some plants are magnets for blackfly

Artichokes and cardoons are usually covered in aphids even before they come into flower over the summer - the fleshy stems provide easy food for blackfly. You could use a contact insecticide if you grow them for their spectacular foliage and flowers, or just soapy water if you are growing them as vegetables to eat.
