Clematis viticella

Clematis viticella

The straight species viticella is a vigorous grower, covered from July to August in small dark purple flowers with a distinct white stripe down each tepal. There is a lot of variation in form, with some plants having hanging bells, other a more open shape. It seeds itself freely (particularly in gravel paths) and seedlings flower in about three years.
