Clematis 'Mary Rose'

Clematis 'Mary Rose'

The only other truly double viticella is 'Mary Rose' (also called 'Flore Pleno') - this is a bluer shade of purple, with small flowers. It was first described in the 1500s, and was thought to have been lost for several hundred years, but it was rediscovered in the 1980s by  noted Clematis grower Barry Fretwell;  it is still not easy to find.
