Split potatoes can't be helped
31st July 2020
Lifting your potatoes, some of them may show splits and clefts in the tubers, but with the skin intact; this isn't a pest or disease problem, but an effect of 'fluctuating environmental conditions' - unexpectedly hot conditions followed by much cooler weather and very erratic rainfall - so you can't really prevent it. Not to be confused with spiked potatoes, where you stabbed them with the fork!
