Ricinus communis

In its own tropical environment, the Castor Oil Plant is a large shrub reaching 12 metres, but in the UK it is grown as a dramatic annual for summer bedding schemes and reaches about 1.5 metres - it has large, deep bronze-red leaves and showy red female flower spikes, but be aware the seeds contain the deadly poison ricin.
