Lilium candidum

The Madonna lily is one of the most elegant summer perennials; in winter it produces a basal rosette of leaves which unfortunately draw lily beetles like a magnet in early spring, but if it survives to flower, the fragrant pure white trumpets are carried on stems up to 1.8m in height.
