Harvest whitecurrants

As soon as they become translucent, it's time to pick whitecurrants - these are sweeter than redcurrants so you can eat them fresh as well as turn them into preserves and desserts, and they are rich in vitamins B1 and C, iron, copper and manganese. They are also astonishingly prolific in fruiting (three fence-trained bushes yielded 4 kilos), and birds don't notice them.
