Sambucus nigra

As a tree, the common elder is brittle and short-lived, with useless pithy wood, but the heady scent of the flowers perfumes the air for many metres around it. With less traffic on the roads, now might be a good time to collect flowers from the hedgerow for elderflower champagne.
