Recognise Convolvulus arvensis in its own setting

You may not recognise Convolvulus arvensis when you see it in its proper habitat if you are used to seeing its lush growth strangling plants in your borders. In grassland, field bindweed trails rather than climbs, too flat to be grazed and opening its pretty striped trumpets in the sunshine; it will clamber up tall grass stalks when it gets the opportunity, but still thrives as a low mat.
