Ceanothus 'Italian Skies'

There are deciduous, late-summer types of Ceanothus, but the more common Californian Lilacs are the evergreen forms - they are all quite short-lived and not very robust in cold winters ('California' might be a clue here) but when they come into flower their small crinkled leaves are hidden by spectacular clouds of bright blue flowers in tight clusters. Another bee magnet.
