These unusual woodland perennials need acid soils and shade; their large, umbrella-shaped leaves have bronze spotting and irregular pointed lobes. The narrow flowers, dark red and bell-shaped, hang below the leaves in late spring or early summer. It's 'interesting', if not beautiful!
