The Chilean nightshade or potato vine does best in a sheltered site, with some frost protection; Grown against a south or west-facing fence, it will be fast-growing, scrambing rather than climbing and needing support for its long stems. 'Glasnevin' is a free-flowering cultivar which produces its clusters of potato-like blue flowers over a long period, though this year it is blooming exceptionally early.
