Mentha aquatica
This is a true mint as you can tell the moment you handle the foliage - young leaves are shiny and purplish- green, becoming softer and hairier as the plant grows. It is a British native perennial that is an excellent plant for wildlife.Profuse tiny lilac flowers are produced from July to as late as October which are a valuable source of nectar for bees and butterflies and the foliage provides food for a variety of caterpillars.
