Magnolia, Elaeagnus and Acer spp are particularly susceptible to coral spot, along with Ribes (both ornamental and fruiting currants) figs and some trees. It rarely affects conifers, but it can affect any woody shrub which is stressed by other problems or newly planted and struggling to get established.  There are no fungicides to treat it, so all you can do is to practise good hygiene. Avoid encouraging it by making clean pruning cuts, leaving no snags or stumps, which will help the fungus to enter. Cut off all affected shoots and branches at a point well below the dead and diseased wood and burn or dispose of the prunings - don't compost them.
