Choose tomato cultivars

Once you've decided on a growing type, there are hundreds of cultivars to choose from: there are cherry, beefsteak and salad tomatoes, pink, red, orange, black, striped – even heirloom varieties like ‘Banana Legs’. But unless you want to supply a car boot sale or your local fete, don’t get carried away - how many tomato plants do you realistically have space for?
