Root out ground elder
The rhizomes of ground elder (Aegopodium podagraria)are fairly shallow; you should be able to lift most of them with a hand fork and where they run under clumps of other shallow-rooted perennials like geranium you can disentangle them while these are still dormant. Where they run throgh deeper rooted plants you may not be able to remove them so easily, but you will at least control the spread, if you can't eliminate it completely.
