Viburnum tinus

Viburnum tinus

This useful evergreen shrub tolerates a lot of shade, and forms its pink flower-buds at the start of winter before opening them to white flowers in early spring. It used to be a popular hedge, but the grubs of the viburnum beetle can shred the leaves. It will regenerate if cut back hard, and this will remove any overwintering eggs of the beetle.
