Buy lily bulbs

Like seed potatoes, lilies and other summer-flowering bulbs don't keep too well in garden centre conditions - they lose moisture and either develop mildew or start to grow away. Buy your lilies as soon as you can, feeling for good firm bulbs inside the packaging.
