Royal Horticultural Society Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Garden Planning, Construction and Planting
The RHS Level 3 Certificates offer you a structured progression from Level 2 qualifications and the opportunity to study a broad range of theory and practical aspects of horticulture, proving your competence against rigorous RHS standards.
Course content revised for the 2015 syllabus:
- Garden survey techniques and design principles
- Selection and use of landscaping elements in the garden
- Setting out and construction of landscaping elements in the garden
- A range of specialist elements in the establishment of garden and urban plantings

You can study individual units, or enrol for the complete Certificate.
Online: the certificate course costs £372 (£310 + VAT), or £99 (£82.50 + VAT) for a single unit
Correspondence: the course costs £576 (£480 + VAT) or £150 (£125 + VAT) for each unit.
Each of the four units is assessed by a short written examination set by the Royal Horticultural Society in February and June each year.
There is no compulsory course work, but you will be given the opportunity to try sample examination questions if you are going take the examination. RHS exam fees are £25 for each unit, in September rising to £26.This is paid to the RHS by the centre where you take your exams.
Achievement: When you have passed exams in all the units, the Royal Horticultural Society will award a Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Garden Planning, Construction and Planting.Combined with the other theory Certificate and the Level 3 Practical Certificate, this makes up the RHS Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture.
Note: If you have opted not to undertake the examinations for either course but work through all the exercises and practice questions we will issue a certificate of attendance.
